Siobhan Treacy
Walk Well Clinic
I graduated as a Chartered Physiotherapist from Trinity. College, Dublin in 1978 and have subsequently completed my Membership and Fellowship of The Society of Orthopaedic Medicine in addition to a wide range of professional training courses.
My background as an International Athlete over 800m, 1500m and Cross Country stimulated my interest in musculoskeletal medicine and led me to establish Lucan Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic in 1982. Following an accident I discontinued general physiotherapy and sold the practice to City Physio in 2001. This led me to specialise in Lower Limb Biomechanical Assessment and Treatment.
I acted as Head Physiotherapist to BLE/Athletics Ireland from the World Cross Country Championships in Limerick in 1979 until the World Cross Country Championships in Leopardstown 2001. This required me to travel to World and European Championships and two Olympic Games, Barcelona and Seoul. I also worked with National Squads and Coaches and our leading athletes of the time at training camps, my clinic in Lucan, International Team events and major Championships. At Olympic Games I also worked with athletes from all sporting disciplines.
Since I completed the Fellowship of the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine in 1992 I have lectured on Society Membership Courses, undergraduate Physiotherapy Courses, Sports Medicine courses in The Royal College of Surgeons and on Training Courses for General Practitioners.
I also worked on the development of the syllabus for Athletics Coaches’ Training and lectured on many other courses.
Since finishing in General Practice in 2001 I have focused my professional work in the field of Biomechanical assessment and treatment and Orthotic prescribing and manufacture. I have worked in this area since the early ’80’s. I have travelled to training courses in the USA, UK and France over a 30 year period and I still travel to course updates regularly.
My knowledge of Orthopaedic Medicine, General Physiotherapy and my extensive training and experience in Biomechanics and Orthotic prescribing and manufacture all combine to provide a comprehensive service to patients. My multi-disciplinary approach enables me to clearly identify the source and cause of the patients pain and prescribe appropriate treatment.
